Komen Houston Race for the Cure
What day is the Race? Race Day is Saturday, October 6, 2012 - rain or shine!

Where should I make hotel reservations? If you are looking for a hotel in the Downtown Area you're in luck! We have contacted several hotels that are willing to offer a discounted rate for all Race Runners. Visit the lodging section for more information.
Do children have to pay to participate in the Race? Children 3 and under are free; however, if you want your child to be recognized as a Race participant and receive a bib and youth-sized Race T-shirt, they must register.
How long is each event?
- Family Walk and Kids K - approximately 1/2 mile
- Competitive Run - 5K (approximately 3.1 miles)
- Non-Competitive Run - 5K (approximately 3.1 miles)Non-Competitive Walk - 5K (approximately 3.1 miles)
What sizes do the T-shirts come in?Race T-shirts are available in Youth sizes Small and Medium as well as Adult sizes Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, XX-Large, and XXX-Large. T-shirts are first-come, first-serve. T-shirt sizes can not be guaranteed as Race Day approaches.
Can I push a stroller or wagon during the Race? Yes. Strollers and wagons are encouraged in the Kids K/Family Walk event and asked to line up towards to back of the participants. Strollers and wagons are not allowed in the Competitive/Non-Competitive Runs because of safety issues.
Can I bring my dog to run with me? By City of Houston Regulations, pets are not be allowed on the course.
Can I use in-line skates or skateboard? For the safety of all participants, skates, skateboards, bicycles or any other wheeled vehicles besides wheelchairs are not allowed (except strollers and wagons are allowed in the Family Walk/Kids K).
What portion of my ENTRY FEE is tax deductible? None. The IRS does not allow deductions when you receive items of value for the entry fee. DONATIONS and PLEDGES are tax deductible.
Can I volunteer for the Race? Absolutely! Please contact us by emailing volunteer @ komen-houston.org.
If I miss the Race, will you mail me my T-shirt? No, Race T-shirts cannot be mailed post-Race due to budgetary constraints. Note: If you register online by noon (12:00pm) on September 28th your Race packet is mailed FREE!
Can I include a pledge with my registration money? If you would like to register and make a pledge to a participant you must write 2 checks. Pledge money must be kept separate from registration fees because it is processed separately. How do I form a team?(Form will be posted on a later date)
Can I participate as a survivor in honor of my mother who passed away from breast cancer two years ago? No, participants may only register as a survivor if they themselves have been diagnosed with breast cancer and they wish to be recognized as a breast cancer survivor by wearing a pink bib and pink T-shirt. If you would like to participate in celebration of a breast cancer survivor or in memory of someone who has lost the battle against breast cancer, please purchase a Survivor Salute Flag or Memorial Bird. This is a great way to honor a breast cancer survivor with a personal touch and remember our loved ones we have lost to the disease.
I have battled ovarian cancer, can I register as a survivor? Only breast cancer survivors are allowed to register as survivors for the Komen Houston Race for the Cure®. All of the net funds raised through this event go towards research, screening, outreach, and treatment of breast cancer.
Online Transactions
Is my information secure? Convio has made every effort to protect your information. They use industry-standard SSL encryption techniques to make sure your credit card information, passwords and personal information travel securely over the Internet. They have also installed an encryption engine on our database server so your data is securely stored.
How is my credit card information handled? Credit card information is not stored in our database. During the donation process, we send your credit card information to an online processing terminal using a secure connection. The information passed back is an approval or denial for the credit card donation.
Username and Password
Remember that your username and password are case sensitive. You will receive an e-mail with your username and password. If you still have problems, please contact us at raceinfo@komen-houston.org for help.
How do I change my Username and/or Password? First, login to the site using your username and password. Once logged in you will see a link at the top of the page called "Update My Profile." Once in your profile, you will be able to change your contact information, e-mail address, username and password. All changes will be made to your account immediately. There is no need to sign in again.
How do I unsubscribe from e-mail? Towards the bottom of each e-mail message there is a link stating, "Click Here to Unsubscribe from this E-mail Message." Click this link and follow the instructions given to unsubscribe.
Online Fundraising
What is a Personal Page? A personal page is an online promotional tool for your use when asking your friends and family to join your team or sponsor you by making a donation. Once you sign up for an event online, by default, you will have a personal page created for you. You have the option of personalizing this page by going to your participant center. You will be able to customize images, text and the style/color layout of the page.
By default I have a personal page, do I have to change it? Once you sign up for an event online, by default, you will have a personal page created for you. A compelling personal page attracts and engages supporters. While you can spread the word using customized e-mail solicitations, your personal campaign page can be your own creative expression of your commitment to the cause. Customize your page by selecting the layout and style that work best for you. Utilize the elements of text, photo and status indicators to their fullest advantage.
How do I change my personal fundraising goal? First, you will need to login to your participant center. On the bottom right side of the participant center home page is the location to modify your personal fundraising goal. Enter your new goal and submit the changes.
How do I change my team name, team division or team goal? Only the team captain has the ability to change the team name or team division. The team captain will need to login to his/her participant center and click the "My Team Progress" button on the top right. On the Team Progress Page, team captains will have the ability to update the team name, division and goal.
How can I see who has donated to me? Login to the site using your Username and Password. Go to your Participant Center and click the "my progress" tab; this will allow you to view your donor list and any amounts having been donated.
How can I see who is on my team? Login to the site using your Username and Password. Go to your Participant Center and click the "team progress" tab; this will allow you to view your team roster and the amounts raised by each team member.
What is a team message? Simply go to your Participant Center and click the "Update Message to Team" button. This will allow you to make all necessary changes to your team message.
What is the difference between making my personal page private or public? By default, a personal page is Public, meaning your name will appear in the participant search list, and anyone accessing the site will be able to support you. Setting your personal page to Private means your name will not appear in the participant search list, and only people you personally invite will be able to support you.
