Wellhead Distributors International to display pink valve at OTC in support of Komen Houston

HOUSTON (April 30, 2013) – The Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is receiving a unique show of support from Wellhead Distributors International (WDi) at this year’s Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in the form of a pink valve, to be on display May 6-9 at Reliant Park in Houston, TX.

This is the first year WDi has supported Komen Houston, and chose to create the valve as breast cancer has touched the lives of several of their employees and family members. The pink valve is a proactive way to raise awareness about breast cancer, not only for their employees and family members, but also to the thousands of oil and gas professionals attending this year’s conference.

WDi will be exhibiting the "pink" valve in their booth located at booth # 7105 in the Reliant Arena. The valve is three feet tall and five feet long and weighs in at over 1,000 pounds.  This is a "Frac" valve normally used in high pressure fracking applications used by oil companies to release the hydrocarbons below the earth's surface.

“After reviewing several worthy organizations, we decided to team up with the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen® in support of their annual Race for the Cure®. We thought OTC would be an excellent opportunity for Komen Houston to have access to a large number (up to 80,000) of industry professionals, not only from the United States but from all over the world,” said Steve Grisdale of Wellhead Distributors International.

Employees of WDi will be wearing "pink" shirts to help draw attention on Tuesday, May 7, traditionally the conferences’ largest attendance day. WDi has also purchased 4,000 pink wristbands to pass out to visitors for the duration of the show to raise awareness of the fight against breast cancer.

“We are excited about our partnership with Wellhead Distributors International and hope that the valve will draw attention to the message that annual breast health screening is important and early detection can save your life,” said Adriana Higgins, Executive Director at Komen Houston

The Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer.  In 1982 that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, launching the global breast cancer movement and the largest group of volunteers and grassroots advocates to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all, and energize science to find the cures.

Established in 1990 by passionate volunteers to support the individuals in need throughout the Houston area, the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has granted over $45 million to local programs for breast cancer education and awareness campaigns, life saving screening and treatment programs, and innovative cutting edge research.  Serving Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty and Montgomery counties, Komen Houston continues its commitment to fundraising and grant making so that families battling breast cancer can get the treatment and support they need.
