HOUSTON (Jan. 17, 2013) – Sam Houston Race Park has announced that is will donate $1 for each guest attending the Houston Ladies Classic, a racing festival taking place on Jan. 26, 2013 to the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

The $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic is part of a special stakes-filled card including the Grade III, the $200,000 John B. Connally Turf Cup.  In addition to the $1 donation per guest, the Park will ‘pink out’ the entire venue and  donate PSA air time through their partnerships with HRTV and Fox Sports Southwest. Furthermore, the Park has donated a suite for Komen’s Race for the Cure committee to enjoy during the event, 200 tickets for breast cancer survivors and will host a hat contest with cash prizes to be judged by Komen representatives and survivors.

 “We are thrilled about the opportunity to partner with Sam Houston Race Park for the Houston Ladies Classic,” said Adriana M. Higgins, Ed.D., Komen Houston Executive Director. “We look forward to everyone coming out to enjoy the races and support Komen Houston in our efforts to provide community funding for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment. Last year we granted over $3 million to support local programs and over $1 million for research. This year we want to do even more.”

Sam Houston Race Park recently announced a revamped stakes schedule in 2013; including the richest thoroughbred race in both the Sam Houston Race Park and Texas history.
