Komen Houston Stays Strong in the Fight Against Cancer

HOUSTON  (Oct. 6, 2012) – This morning more than 25,000 people, including 2,000 Houston area breast cancer survivors, walked, ran and rallied together in efforts to eradicate breast cancer forever in the 2012 Komen Houston Race for the Cure® in downtown Houston.

“We are excited about this 22nd year of the Komen Houston Race for the Cure® and thank supporters throughout the Houston area for their commitment and dedication,” said Adriana Higgins, Ed.D, Executive Director of the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. “With your help, we will continue to fund cutting edge research, education and life saving screening services which has always been our number one priority. We will be accepting pledges until mid November and hope that Houstonians will continue to support the fight against breast cancer with their donations.”

The 2012 Race, sponsored locally by Marathon Oil Corporation,  marks the 22nd Komen Houston Affiliate’s Race and largest yearly fundraiser. Proceeds from the Race enables the organization to grant millions of dollars for breast cancer education, screening and diagnosis services, treatment services and research  in Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty and Montgomery counties.
