HOUSTON (Nov. 07, 2012) – The Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is excited to announce the “Raise the Ribbon” campaign, a month-long fundraising effort to raise at least $1 million to help eradicate breast cancer.
The “Raise the Ribbon” campaign was born after the biggest fundraising event for Komen Houston, the annual Race for the Cure®, only reached 50 percent of its $3 million goal despite having over 25,000 participants. The gap in fundraising jeopardizes grants that Komen gives each year to organizations who offer breast cancer research, education, screening along with diagnosis and treatment services in Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty and Montgomery counties.
Houstonians are encouraged to ‘Raise the Ribbon’ through their own fundraising efforts including ‘Color for the Cure.’ ‘Color for the Cure’ is a challenge where those participating reach out to friends family, friends, and colleagues promising to dye their hair pink or wear a funky pink outfit if they reach their personal fundraising goal.
We are asking 10,000 people to donate $100 to help us reach our goal.
