The American Cancer Society compiles detailed summaries of information about cancer across the United States. Information is used to inform community leaders, public health and health care workers, and others interested in cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.

2. Texas Cancer Registry

The Texas Cancer Registry is a statewide population-based registry that serves as the foundation for measuring the Texas cancer burden, comprehensive cancer control efforts, health disparities, progress in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, as well as supports a wide variety of cancer-related research.

3. Cancer Control P.L.A.N.E.T.

This Cancer Control P.L.A.N.E.T. portal provides access to data and resources that can help planners, program staff, and researchers to design, implement and evaluate evidence-based cancer control programs. The Cancer Control P.L.A.N.E.T. portal provides access to Web-based resources that can assist in:

• Assessing the cancer and/or risk factor burden within a given state.
• Identifying potential partner organizations that may already be working with high-risk populations.
• Understanding the current research findings and recommendations.
• Accessing and downloading evidence-based programs and products.
• Finding guidelines for planning and evaluation.

4. Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas

Texas voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment in 2007 establishing the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and authorizing the state to issue $3 billion in bonds to fund groundbreaking cancer research and prevention programs and services in Texas. CPRIT’s goal is to expedite innovation and commercialization in the area of cancer research and to enhance access to evidence-based prevention programs and services throughout the state. Under the guidance of its governing body, the Oversight Committee, CPRIT accepts applications and awards grants for a wide variety of cancer-related research and for the delivery of cancer prevention programs and services by public and private entities located in Texas. All CPRIT-funded research will be conducted in state by Texas-based scientists and reflect CPRIT’s mission to attract and expand the state’s research capabilities and create high quality new jobs in Texas.

5. Breast Health Collaborative of Texas

The Breast Health Collaborative of Texas acts a resource for education, funding, and policy for breast health issues and services. The Collaborative is led by individuals whose goal is to unite breast health advocates and providers to educate, advocate and leverage resources to improve access to care for all Texans.

6. Breast Health Portal

The Breast Health Portal is a joint project with The Breast Health Collaborative of Texas. The portal is an online interactive mapping tool which provides researchers, planners and policy decision makers breast health related data. The portal currently houses data for the seven counties in the Komen Houston Affiliate service area, as well as data for Waller County.
