Education Outreach Programs
Increasing Breast Cancer Awareness in Our Communities
Breast cancer strikes both men and women. In 2011 alone, there were an estimated 230,480 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in American women and 2,140 in American men.
The Komen Houston Affiliate seeks to educate our community about breast cancer and breast health awareness through our Education Outreach Programs.
Education Committee
The Education Committee assists with the Affiliate's education programming to provide breast cancer information across the seven county service area. All committee members are trained and can participate in a variety of education programs, according to interest and location. New volunteers are always welcome to join the committee. The next volunteer orientation will take place on Saturday January 21, 2012 from 9 am – Noon. Please complete the volunteer form in the “Get Involved” section of our website to receive more information.
Pink Ribbon Home Project
The Houston Affiliate distributes tens of thousands of pink ribbons at events throughout the year. Do your part by simply making pink breast cancer awareness ribbons at home and send or drop off at our office. Please feel free to be as creative as you like. We only ask that you group the ribbons in sets of 50 and use safety pins in lieu of straight pins.
Presentations and Material Distribution
The Affiliate offers breast health and breast cancer materials and equipment for use in our service area. The Education Committee assists in distributing materials to all non-profit organizations/individuals upon request. Please complete the form below to request an Education Speaker or Educational Materials from the Komen Houston Affiliate. NOTE: All forms must be submitted a minimum of 4 weeks before the date of your event.
• Free educational materials in a variety of languages are provided to non-profit organizations.
• All presentations are free of charge, however, donations can be offered to the Affiliate.
