If you don’t already have a loved one, co-worker or friend who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, statistics indicate you will. This year it is estimated that over 17,000 men and women in Texas will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 2,900 will die.

Susan G. Komen® Houston continues its commitment to stand on the front lines with those battling breast cancer throughout the Houston area. As the need for services in our community increase, the need for additional fundraising dollars also increases.

As a supporter of the Susan G. Komen® Houston Golf Classic, your dollars will be going to support the initiatives detailed on the following page. Details on how to get involved also follow.

I’d like to thank Honorary Chair Carol Mann for her support of the Susan G. Komen® Houston Golf Classic. It’s a privilege for us to be hosting this event at one of the premier golf courses in the state.

Sincerely,

Adriana M. Higgins, Ed. D.
Executive Director, Susan G. Komen® Houston

Honorary Chair

It is an honor and privilege for me to serve as Honorary Chair for the inaugural Susan G. Komen Houston Golf Classic at Champions Golf Club. For years, I have watched area Women’s Golf Associations raise funds toward the battle against breast cancer through the Rally for the Cure program at golf clubs. I am inspired by their efforts and accomplishments, and it is my goal to keep the ball rolling!

As a PGA and LPGA Member, I am pleased to see Southern Texas PGA reaching out to support this great cause. While I personally have not had to fight this battle, I have many dear friends who have. I’m pleased to stand behind Susan G. Komen as 80 cents of every dollar raised goes toward research and community services that save lives.

The Susan G. Komen Houston Golf Classic will be a great day of golf and celebration as we all join together to support heightened awareness through prevention, education and research projects. Please consider joining us on November 17th as a Sponsor or as a Team in this event.

I look forward to seeing you at Champions Golf Club.

Yours truly,

Carol Mann

HOUSTON - We are excited to announce that our inaugural Susan G. Komen® Golf Classic presented by Bristow Group was a huge success and raised more than $131,673 to fund national research and local breast health education, screening and treatment programs in the seven counties we serve; Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, and Montgomery counties.

Led by Komen Houston’s Advisory Council and Staff, along with the Southern Texas PGA, the tournament welcomed Honorary Chair Carol Mann, LPGA Hall of Famer and PGA Member, and other local golf professionals, including Marci Bozarth, Lori Tatum, and Susie Redman Kirk.

Monday’s outing at Champions Golf Course had 190 players who braved the cold temperatures and gusty wind conditions to support our promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever.  Carol Mann opened up the morning by sharing her expertise during her golf clinic on the driving range as participants warmed up for the day ahead.

The day’s festivities continued after tournament play as our presenting partner Bristow Group brought the unique and exciting Pink Ball Drop.  Supporters had the opportunity to purchase pink golf balls for a chance to win a grand prize.  The golf balls were then placed in buckets and loaded into a Bristow Bell 407.  Everyone gathered at the driving range to watch as the 407 made a circle over the course and hovered over the driving range as Bristow President and CEO Jonathan Baliff poured the balls onto the green.  The winner of the Pink Ball Drop was the person whose name was on the ball that landed in or closest to the hole.

Thank you Bristow Group for making this unique fundraising opportunity possible!  The Pink Ball Drop raised over $6,000 and we want to congratulate the Grand Prize winner, Gerry Fuller with Temp Stay/Habitat For Patients!
