“I started supporting the fight against breast cancer eight years ago after losing a dear friend to the disease. She was in the prime of her life, had two small children and a husband who loved her dearly. It was hard to see their family torn apart.” says Julia.
After Emily’s passing, she began participating in the Komen Houston Race for the Cure® and has walked every year. It’s a very emotional experience. She remembers fighting back tears when she saw the survivors finishing the Race. She was happy for them, but she wished her friend was also there to walk down the survivor finish line.
This year, Julia ranked #46 on the 2015 Pink Honor Roll for her phenomenal fundraising efforts in raising $3,230 to support Komen Houston’s mission – to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
Julia is also a trained media spokesperson for Susan G. Komen® Houston and helps raise awareness by sharing her story and why she supports.
