Being diagnosed with breast cancer is a devastating and shocking experience. Remaining positive can be tough, but even after Janet’s third diagnosis, she remains tremendously courageous.
Janet is very fortunate to have the support network of her loving family and friends. She is aware that there are many that don’t have that support and in 2001 she decided her mission was to make a difference for them. She created the Janet Ely Bracelet to raise awareness of breast cancer. Every October, for the past eight years, instead of receiving gifts for her birthday she hosts the Janet Ely Tennis Invitational and raises money to fight breast cancer. She is a true champion who has turned her experience into an extraordinary and impressive achievement with her enormous contributions and hard work for the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.
"It's the best way I know how to raise money and to be assured a great time while celebrating another year of life!” says Janet.
After an eight year period of being cancer-free, Janet has spent the past two years fighting stage 4 breast cancer. In the midst of her journey, the annual Tennis Invitational is stronger than ever and Janet continues to live each day with a remarkable spirit of hope and perseverance. Her contagious laughter fills the room and reminds us all just how precious life is.
