Debbie Scanlon has been involved with Komen Houston for over 11 years. “I love serving on the Board of Directors for Komen Houston. As I am not a survivor myself, serving at this capacity has given me a way to give to the cause and make a difference for those that I love dearly. It also makes me feel good to know that I am helping others I may never meet.” says Debbie.
This year, Debbie ranked #33 on the 2015 Pink Honor Roll for her phenomenal fundraising efforts in raising $4,750 to support Komen Houston’s mission – to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
Debbie is an advocate of raising awareness of breast cancer and raising funds that allow Komen Houston to fund national breast cancer research and local community programs that offer breast health education, screening, treatment and support services to underserved and underinsured women.
As member of the BKD Race Team, she runs in honor of her mother-in-law, Rose Scanlon, and her husband's cousin, Robin Henry, both who are now survivors. She runs for all of her friends who have fought and lost and who have fought and won their battles with breast cancer. She runs to be with all those survivors and their families that come to the race to celebrate life. “It is a feeling like none other.” shares Debbie.
