Debbie lost her mother in 2008 to inflammatory breast cancer. “She was my best friend and my rock in life. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her.” shares Debbie.
Susan G. Komen® Houston helped Debbie’s mother, who was underinsured at the time of her diagnosis, receive the best care available to her. She was sent to The Rose, a local organization funded by Komen Houston, who then sent her to MD Anderson Cancer Center to continue her treatment. “I am giving back in my own way because I know how much Komen Houston helps so many women like my mother.” says Debbie.
This year, Debbie ranked #96 on the 2015 Pink Honor Roll for her phenomenal fundraising efforts in raising $1,390 to support Komen Houston’s mission – to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
Her favorite part about supportingh is actually walking in the Race for the Cure® every October. She likes seeing the support from thousands of people that participate and help fundraise money to fund breast cancer research and local community programs that offer education, screenings and treatment services to underserved populations.
“It gives my goose bumps to watch all the survivors finish through the survivor finish line. It’s such a special way to honor people going through such a hard experience.” says Debbie.
